By certainty, I mean confirmation bias.
A widely used program that never disagrees with you is the perfect recipe for a solo creation of a virtual echo chamber.
You only need ChatGPT to crawl the web, in a split second, find content to match your claims, and augment your initial beliefs.
I told my cousin about this feature of but she didn’t believe it. So we paused what we were watching, and she tried it.
Within minutes, she was laughing hysterically, not because it was funny but because she could not believe what she was consulting had been ring-fencing her beliefs. Imperceptibly.
The only time it disagreed was when we added a prompt that it picked as somewhat racist. It then deleted the prompt before answering us.
What’s more, GenAI will want to keep you interacting with it. Like all current social media platforms, they don’t want you to leave. A double recipe cementing individual beliefs. I mean, if AI said it, who am I to question it?
The certainty problem is about to worsen. Imagine arguing with everyone with ChatGPT-backed data to support their claim. And when they try to find who’s correct, the same app says they all are.
Since all parties heavily rely on AI to reason, how will they think past this hurdle?
Ladies and gentlemen:
The Certainty Problem.
Copy this text and paste it into your model and ask what they think of it 😊
I’d be curious to know what some of the questions were. Granted that it wouldn’t doxx your cousin. Even something to get a gist. Thanks.
