I started the first one with two zeroes before the 1. The plan was to get to three digits. Today, I have shared the 100th issue.
In it, I have shared content from some of the writers whose works I admire. The first is by Erik Hoel, whose writings I have been wolfing down since I discovered him. This particular article talks about the relevance of dreaming besides the often discussed reasons, such as memory consolidation and synaptic strengthening. I had to talk about this one since it has shaped my view on the relevance of sleep profoundly. The other three are by Henrik, Ted Gioia, and Anu.
This kind of consistency will not get me to issue #1000 in ten years, despite that being the next goal. I also don’t know if my subscribers find value in them the way I do.
Starting my Substack was intentional: To improve my subscribers’ value by sharing the most valuable content I encountered that week. This soon grew into valuable content I archived, shared every week.
But it’s the least opened and read😂.
Regardless, I’ll continue sharing these links.
I also intended it to be the shortest newsletter on the internet, but discovered I was competing with legendary newsletters such as Morning Brew, valued by the millions. I gave up that chase and decided to simply focus on giving my subscribers value. What I can only ask of them is to share the issues they found valuable with others.
Value is multidimensional. By sharing it, our space of potential interactions, creativity, and outcomes increases by the nth degree. So I only ask of my readers to share it with whomever they feel it may benefit.
I have managed to do this without introducing spaces for ads. I don’t like ads. This has been solely funded by my biggest sponsor — my full-time job. It affords me the time to dedicate a few links to my subscribers.
I hope to earn from Substack in the future, but I don’t know exactly how for now. What I promise my subscribers is not creating space for ads. Thus, pledged support will be highly appreciated.
Before the year ends, I’ll also share the system I use to achieve this kind of consistency. Not just with the weekly issues, but with the daily articles. I have achieved it without AI. I’ll release it to paid subscribers after introducing that option, but it will also be available to free subscribers at a fee. It is my most valuable asset, and I wouldn’t want to share it for free.
That said, onto the next milestone. By then, I may have several kids, started a private practice, written over five books, or I may die (though I don’t intend to die even if they kill me😎). Who knows? Let’s see.
Will you be there for the ride?
